Alan Sheehan, a former Bradford City and Leeds United defender, has been named interim head coach of Swansea City.

The 37-year-old was given the position as a result of the club’s decision to fire Michael Duff. Swansea was sitting in 18th place in the table, five points above the relegation zone and nine points outside the play-offs, when Duff was fired.

Along with Duff, a well-known member of Swansea’s backroom crew, Martin Paterson, has left. Sheehan was also on the team of the former Barnsley head coach, but he has stayed with Swansea to temporarily manage first-team matters.

Sheehan was a well-travelled full-back during his playing career, spending time in Yorkshire with Leeds and Bradford. After hanging up his boots in 2022, he began coaching at Luton Town and then moved to Southampton with Nathan Jones.

The Swans have declared that the selection process for a new head coach has already begun.

Swansea’s first match following Duff will be away to Rotherham United. After firing Matt Taylor last month, the Millers are also without a manager.
