“Witness Wilt Chamberlain’s Gravity-Defying Layup: An Iconic Moment Frozen in Time Against the Cincinnati Royals, 1967!”
Wilt Chamberlain, departed, would have turned sixty this year. It would have made him 77.
Without a doubt, one of the all-time greats in the NBA is Chamberlain. The Hall of Famer was selected to the All-NBA First Team seven times (1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967, and 1968), won two NBA titles (1967, 1972), and was listed as one of the league’s 50 greatest players. He was also voted an MVP four times (1960, ’66, ’67, and ’68).
Wilt Chamberlain has an incredible record of accomplishments, but his scoring totals are arguably the most striking. On March 2, 1962, he scored 100 points against the New York Knicks, setting the NBA single-game scoring record.
In addition, Chamberlain has the NBA record for the most games with 60 points. No player has ever come close to matching Chamberlain’s record of 32 career games with 60 or more points scored. Only four NBA players have actually scored 60 points more than once. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have tied for the second-most 60-point performances out of all of them, with five apiece.
