You’ve won the NBA twice. You’re going to be the MVP of the regular season for the third time in a row. You’ve essentially experienced everything the NBA has to offer. So how can you maintain interest and novelty? You play the entire game with your left hand if you’re Larry Bird.

On Valentine’s Day in 1986, Bird made sure to display his affection for the Trail Blazers. Despite McHale missing nine games due to injury, the Celtics had won 14 of their previous 15 heading into Portland. Nobody was challenging the Celtics at this point. They were enjoying a smooth regular season while they awaited the beginning of the playoffs.

Bird, being Bird, decided to add some spice to the situation after growing weary of the team’s and his own domination. When no one offered Larry a challenge, he made the decision to issue one of his own.
