Daniel Gafford of the Mavericks passes Wilt Chamberlain for second place on the list of consecutive field goals made.

Up until Wednesday night, NBA great Wilt Chamberlain had the records for the most consecutive field goals made in first and second place, but big man Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks has assumed the second-place record.

With his recent play around the basket, Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford might simply give up and never miss another shot.

Gafford played 26 minutes as a starter and finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 7 blocks, and a 5-5 shooting percentage in a 109-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. After completing yet another flawless shooting performance, Gafford extended his run of consecutive made field goals to 33, surpassing the all-time record of 32 set by NBA star Wilt Chamberlain in 1967 for second place.

In addition, Chamberlain owns the record for the most field goals made in a row, which was also established in 1967—35 in a row. Thus, Gafford will become the new record holder for the most consecutive field goals made if he can start the Mavs’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday by making his first three baskets combined.

If I succeed, that’s excellent. Naturally, I’m going to celebrate, but my main goal is to win games,” stated Gafford.

Dallas is currently on a four-game winning streak after defeating Golden State, and they will face Oklahoma City, the best team in the West, on the second night of a back-to-back. The Mavs are hoping that improved long-range shooting and fewer turnovers would enable them to overcome their disadvantage and claim another victory. Against Golden State, Dallas had a meager 22.2 percent long-range shooting percentage and 17 turnovers.
