Showtime Sports Releases “Goliath,” Wilt Chamberlain Documentaries.

Showtime Sports has announced that a new documentary series featuring Wilt Chamberlain will premiere soon. This news was made on Thursday.

“Goliath,” a three-part documentary series, aims to explore Wilt Chamberlain’s impact, career, and productive life. As stated in the description, “Brash and self-assured, Chamberlain altered the course of the game, shattered records and racial barriers and questioned the unwritten rules for all athletes, especially black basketball players, adhering to his own standards on or off the court.”

The Hall of Famer will narrate his own tale alongside archive film provided by the Wilt Chamberlain Estate, using artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic Wilt Chamberlain’s voice. Starting from Chamberlain’s introduction to the public eye as a high school student in the 1950s and tracing his life story until his passing in 1999, each episode will delve into a different aspect of Chamberlain’s cultural influence, with an emphasis on power, wealth, race, sex, politics, and celebrity.

President of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza stated, “We are honored to team up with this group of talented filmmakers to bring the underexamined story of Wilt Chamberlain’s complex life to the masses.” “Wilt is best known for his illustrious basketball career highlights, which include scoring 100 points in a single game,

a season with an average of 50 points and 25 rebounds, but his game is considerably more complex than that. He was decades ahead of his time in a plethora of ways that will never fade, much like the numbers on a scoreboard.

“My team and I felt privileged and honored to share Wilt’s amazing legacy with the world,” Garnett remarked. “As a well-known and vocal African American athlete, Wilt had a revolutionary cultural impact, particularly at a period when social power was not valued. If Wilt doesn’t clear our path, there won’t be any KG, [Michael] Jordan, Hakeem [Olajuwon], LeBron [James], Kobe [Bryant], or Shaq [Shaquille O’Neal]. We are all supported by his broad shoulders. Wilt’s and Barbara Lewis deserve a very special thank you from all of us.

GOLIATH honors Wilt’s remarkable career while also celebrating the impact he made on the world at large and on the basketball court.

Produced by Village Roadshow Television and Gotham Chopra’s Religion of Sports in collaboration with Happy Madison Productions, Kevin Garnett’s Content Cartel, and Heeltap! Entertainment, the film “Goliath” stars.

On July 14 for all Paramount+ and Showtime subscribers, the series will debut on demand and streaming. On July 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, it will have its on-air debut on Showtime, with new episodes premiering every Sunday.
