Montgomery: Hoping the Boston Bruins Will Provide “A Little More Offense”
Boston — Jim Montgomery, the new head coach of the Boston Bruins, made his message clear and straightforward at his first press conference at TD Garden on Monday, marking his official takeover behind the Black and Gold bench.
The 51-win hockey team that the former head coach of the Dallas Stars and University of Denver knows he’s inheriting is poised to contend for the playoffs and beyond this coming season, and he spoke with captain Patrice Bergeron over the phone as his first player. Although Montgomery is aware that the team already has potential and a roster full of elite players, he wants to work even harder to extract more offensive production from a team that will be without Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand for the first few months of the season.
Montgomery remarked, “I think the staff did a really good job last year. This is a 51-win team last year.” “Going forward, I believe there will be places where I’m looking to implement new, different style—every coach approaches coaching in a different way. that a little more offense will result from it.
Though Boston Bruins President Cam Neely mentioned greater mobility from the defenseman around the offensive blue line, it is unclear where that offense will come from.
With a 3.09 goals against average in the regular season, the Bruins tied for 15th place in the NHL. During the playoffs, they were notorious for their offensive struggles when playing on the road against Carolina. Therefore, increasing the offensive is a feasible goal for Montgomery and company, assuming that Bergeron and maybe even David Krejci decide to return for one more season with the Bruins.
Montgomery also expresses the sentiments of the Boston Bruins’ supporters, calling on the team to return to its core values of effort and performance.
“We are going to fight. Montgomery declared, “We’re going to be a team renowned for our work ethic and proficiency. “I want opponents to know that they have to be ready or they will be taken advantage of around the league.”
