NBA News: The Boston Celtics’ guard is willing to extend his contract.
Guard Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics has only played for the team for six months. Holiday has stated that he would like to remain with the squad for a little while longer when it was announced in October that the organization had acquired the former NBA champion:
Holiday is scoring 13.3 points, grabbing 6.2 rebounds, and dishing out 4.6 assists a game this season. In addition, Holiday’s field goal percentage is 46.3%. The Boston Celtics, who are currently 35-10, have the best record in the NBA, in part because of Holiday.
Holiday is mostly used as a defensive specialist, even though the Celtics have benefited from his offensive. To be more precise, Holiday was supposed to take the place of Marcus Smart’s toughness and defense. Holiday, who is perhaps the best perimeter defender in the NBA, and Derrick White’s backcourt combination have improved the Celtics’ defense as a whole. White discussed the three-time NBA Teammate of the Year’s compatibility with the Celtics in an interview with J.J. Redick:
The Minnesota Timberwolves now lead the NBA in defensive rating, with the Celtics holding the second-best rating. Boston is second in the NBA in blocks per game, only behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. Most significantly, though, the Celtics allow just 14 points a game due to turnovers, which is tied for the lowest in the NBA with the Houston Rockets.
Holiday was acquired by the Celtics in October, so an extension isn’t official until April. However, it seems that Holiday is amenable to signing an extension throughout the season:
