What role does Xavier Tillman, Sr. play for the Boston Celtics?

Prior to the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline, the Boston Celtics made the decision to address their frontcourt depth, sending reserve forward Lamar Stevens and two second-round draft picks to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr.’s contract.

For the remainder of the 2023–24 regular season, Tillman will contribute to strengthening the rotation by probably playing on most nights and filling in for longer stretches of time when one of the two star Boston big men, Kristaps Porzingis or veteran Celtics forward Al Horford, takes the night off. The former Grizzlies center will probably start the season behind backup big man Luke Kornet in the team’s rotation, but he has a unique appearance that could make him comparable.
