The governor of the Boston Celtics suggested Rivers to the Milwaukee Bucks, claiming that without him, Boston would not have won in 2008.

Wyc Grousbeck, the governor of the Celtics, claimed that the Bucks contacted him when they were trying to get Doc Rivers.

A little over halfway through his first season in charge, Adrian Griffin was fired by Milwaukee last month. Not long after, they hired Rivers, who coached the Celtics for over ten years.

With respect to the number of games coached with the Celtics throughout the years, Rivers is second only to Red Auerbach in the record book. In 2008, he also led the Celtics to their most recent NBA championship.

“I adore Doc,” I received a call from the Bucks regarding Doc, and I provided an accurate response,” Grousbeck said. Without Doc, we would not have prevailed in 2008. He guided the squad and shaped it into what it was. He was heavily involved with the tournament, and I will always think of him as a very good buddy.

Prior to being hired, Rivers was a consultant with the Bucks.

After Milwaukee lost the In-Season Tournament, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report reports that the team focused on Rivers as a potential Griffin replacement during a “airing out session.”

According to Haynes, a lack of significant victories and rivalry in the locker room were factors in Griffin’s termination.

Under Rivers, the Bucks have dropped seven of their last ten games. Milwaukee, the 2021 champions, is presently ranked third in the Eastern Conference.

When Joe Mazzulla replaced Ime Udoka as coach last year due to a suspension, Grousbeck was under pressure to find a replacement.

He added that hiring Mazzulla was made possible by Brad Stevens’ recommendation.

Grousbeck remarked, “Look, I’m very confident that it’s Joe.” “I was aware of Joe.” Joe and I enjoyed dinner together. Actually, I had gotten to know him somewhat a few months prior. His entire look and style truly captivated me.

Grousbeck continued, “He’s intense, really driven, and passionate.” He seemed like a pretty inspiring coach to me. That was his assistant days. And when Brad, who was closer to him than I was, strongly suggested that Joe was the one, I followed his advice. Give Brad the credit, then.
