Treble 20 remains red for the 2024 World Darts Championship in support of Prostate Cancer UK, thanks to PDC and Paddy Power.
In 2024, Paddy Power, the sponsor of the World Darts Championship, will pay £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for each 180 hits throughout the event. Bookies had earlier this week made a lighthearted announcement that the Alexandra Palace treble 20 bed will turn green, but the real purpose of the ‘Big 180’ campaign has officially been disclosed.
When Paddy Power stated on Tuesday that the treble 20 bed would no longer be red like it usually is, the darting community was enthralled. However, this announcement was made in joke, as the true purpose of the ‘Big 180’ campaign was exposed.
The World Darts Championship took place in Alexandra Palace last year, with 901 maximums struck. It is believed that this year’s event would surpass that record, with a possible £1 million donation.

Earlier this week, Paddy Power declared that the Treble 20 bed will turn green, but that is not going to happen.
The Paddy Power World Darts Championship, which begins live on Sky Sports on Friday, December 15, will raise money for life-saving research aimed at accelerating the diagnosis of males with the most common cancer in the world and enhancing the prognosis of those who suffer from it.
Furthermore, 180,000 UK fans, followers, and customers will be challenged by the bookmaker and Professional Darts Corporation to utilize Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker at prostatecanceruk.org/180-risk.
“We would like to officially apologize if we caused Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen, or any of the other players undue stress this week,” a Paddy Power spokeswoman stated.
However, it will all have been beneficial if it caught their attention and even a small portion of the audience.
Since one in eight men may develop prostate cancer, we want to make sure that The BIG 180 campaign, which will be unmissable this Christmas, hits these guys squarely in the eye.
At the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, some of the biggest stars competing are Fallon Sherrock and defending champion Michael Smith.
“When our new sponsors Paddy Power suggested pranking our players two weeks out from the tournament to get the public’s attention, it sounded like a huge risk,” stated PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.
“Ultimately, it was one we were willing to take if it means the millions of men who will tune into the World Darts Championship, alongside their loved ones, are encouraged to take 30 seconds to check their risk.”
“We are thrilled to become the official charity partner of the Paddy Power World Darts Championship and thank Paddy Power and the PDC for uniting the darts community as we tackle this disease head-on,” stated Laura Kerby, chief executive of Prostate Cancer UK.
“The BIG 180 will place us in the center of the action during this legendary tournament, which is a hallmark of the holiday sports season. One maximum at a time, it will completely transform the game for men with prostate cancer and the people who love them.”
“Almost all cancers can be beaten if caught early enough, including prostate cancer,” stated two-time world champion Dennis Priestley, who assisted in the campaign’s debut after receiving treatment for the disease after it was discovered in November 2007. After 16 years, I am the living example that you can overcome cancer if you receive a diagnosis early enough.
Peter Wright shows his support for friends impacted by prostate cancer by sporting the “Man of Men” emblem from Prostate Cancer UK on his collar.
Peter Wright, the world champion in the PDC in 2020 and 2022, shows support for friends impacted by prostate cancer by sporting the ‘Man of Men’ insignia on his collar.
“As a man over 50 it’s so important to know your risk of prostate cancer, and I’m sure I speak for all of the players taking part this year by saying we are gunning for as many treble 20s as possible,” stated Wright, who is getting ready to compete in this year’s World Championship.
Knowing that reaching every maximum will result in a £1,000 donation to Prostate Cancer UK is just one more great reason for all of us to perform well this season. It also helps that we can get at Paddy Power where it hurts for his actions earlier in the week!
“I work with statistics, so learning that one in eight men will develop prostate cancer startled me. Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Man of Men’ badge is something I always put on my lapel since I know people who are impacted by this illness.
“Knowing we will help raise money to contribute to saving lives every time we throw 180 will be amazing.”
