LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SNOOKER: NEIL ROBERTSON ADVERTISES KYREN WILSON TO WIN IN THE END – “I’VE OCCASIONALLY BEEN UNPLAYABLE.”
Neil Robertson has had a difficult season thus far; last week, the Australian made it to the final 16 of the German Masters during his best run of the campaign in ranking events. However, the world No. 7 returned to winning ways on Thursday, defeating Group 4 of the Championship League at Leicester’s Morningside Arena, helped along by four centuries. He declared victory over Kyren Wilson in the end, 3-2.
In the Championship League Group 4 final on Thursday night, Neil Robertson defeated Kyren Wilson 3-2 in Leicester.
After rolling in breaks of 65 and a final-round 54, the 2010 world champion displayed impressive scoring form. He will be joining Stuart Bingham, Chris Wakelin, and Mark Selby in the winners’ group in the invitational event next month.
Wilson had to settle for a spot in Group 5 when the event begins on Friday after defeating the Melburnian 5-3 in the final 16 of the German Masters in Berlin last week. Wilson had produced 137 and 85 to send the match to a deciding frame.
2020 world finalist Wilson ran in 102, 76, and 76 in a 3-1 victory over John Higgins in the other semi-final, while Robertson also recorded 99, 135, and 67 in a 3-0 victory against Barry Hawkins.
I’ve occasionally been unplayable. “I’ve shifted my strategy regarding my long ball play by returning to playing essentially plain ball,” stated Robertson, who will play his opening match at the Welsh Open next week against Jackson Page. “My long potting has never been better, and my scoring is fantastic as well.”Barry had, I believe, only five shots in the semifinal. Playing against elite players in the Championship League is always a terrific way to develop match experience. I have been able to do that.
With four wins from six matches, Higgins had led the group. Neil Robertson, Hawkins, Wilson, Ricky Walden, and Jimmy Robertson had all finished with three points from six matches, meaning that the standings had to be decided based on the number of frames won.
Along with Higgins, Hawkins, Wilson, and Walden in Group 5, Jimmy Robertson and Xiao Guodong were eliminated. On Friday and Saturday, Dave Gilbert, Fan Zhengyi, and Joe Perry will compete.
LATEST CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE GROUP STANDINGS: Wakelin defeats Selby in Group 2 of the Championship League, declaring himself “delighted.” Bingham secures a spot in the Championship League’s final stages.
Wilson scores 147, but Selby defeats Higgins to win the Championship League group.
On March 1 and 2, the winners of each group advance to the winners’ group, while the worst two finishers from each group are eliminated. The remaining top four players advance to Group 5.
A spot in the Champion of Champions, which will take place later this year, is also awarded to the Championship League victor.
