In Leicester, Ronnie O’Sullivan easily advances to the World Grand Prix semifinals.
Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Gary Wilson 5-1 to cruise into the World Grand Prix semifinals in Leicester.
O’Sullivan has acknowledged he no longer enjoys his current style of play and has continued to doubt his snooker future in the wake of his contentious eighth Masters victory over Ali Carter.
The 48-year-old, who will take a few months off after the competition, demonstrated his continued sharpness, though, as he overcame losing the first frame to take a 3-1 lead with two half-centuries and a clearance of 129 on either side.
Wilson, the current Scottish Open champion, lost ground after his break ended on 52, which let O’Sullivan return to the table and earn the necessary snooker before clearing the field.
In the sixth round, O’Sullivan quickly wrapped up a commanding victory with another break of 58.
On Saturday, he will play Ding Junhui in the semifinals, following Ding’s 5-2 victory over Zhang Anda, another rising Chinese player. Before Christmas, the two faced off at the Masters and the UK Championship, with O’Sullivan emerging victorious both times.
