Virgil van Dijk believes that following a “mediocre” season in November, he “can do everything again.”
Virgil van Dijk has returned to his best form, but it hasn’t been an easy one. The captain acknowledged that he needed to “get to know his knee again.”
The captain of Liverpool has been among the best players thus far this season, dispelling any remaining concerns about his capacity to return to the top following a disappointing 2022–2023 campaign.
Van Dijk hasn’t held back when discussing his weariness and his difficult recovery from an ACL injury in 2020, which caused him to perform far below his elite level.
Since then, he has seemingly received criticism from all sides, but Reds fans will be happy that the Dutchman now feels as though “I can do everything again.”
According to Sport Witness, Van Dijk told Algemeen Dagblad, “My injury was very serious; it is not surprising that you have to get to know your knee again, so to speak.”
However, I no longer notice it. I feel like I can play everything again, and I haven’t had to make many changes to my style.
According to Squawka, Van Dijk has not been dribbled past in the Premier League, nor has he been dispossessed or had an error result in a goal. The stats definitely support that.
Just like he did years ago, he is genuinely making everything appear simple, and just like they did then, rival fans are making every effort to expose any flaw in his armour.
Even he acknowledges that the previous season was “mediocre” and “sometimes even bad,” and it comes after some harsh criticism in both his native Netherlands and England.
Van Dijk clarified, “I take some criticism seriously, but not all.” “I am very aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a player.
The previous season was at best mediocre and at worst terrible. At Liverpool, as a team, we also had trouble getting into a groove. The Dutch team’s performance in the Nations League was also subpar.
To be able to change that, I have given it a lot of thought and discussion. That seems to have worked. Since the summer, everything has been going really well once more.
Van Dijk’s responsibilities have also changed as captain, but he views this as more of a “incentive” for his overall performance.
Regarding my position as captain, I naturally find it to be very beautiful and honorable,” he remarked. “There’s probably more going on at the club level than there is at the national team level.
“You bear a great deal of responsibility not only for the club overall but also for the entire team, particularly the younger boys.
“It doesn’t really affect my game negatively. Not quite; more like an incentive.
