Following Gary Wilson’s Scottish Open triumph, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Donald Trump learned the names of their world grand prix opponent opponents.
After making it to the final in Edinburgh, double Scottish Open winner Gary Wilson guaranteed his spot in the draw for the 32-player World Grand Prix.
On Sunday, he won the Stephen Hendry Trophy for the second time in a row, improving his ranking to 10th on the one-year list. At the World Grand Prix, he will take on David Gilbert, with top seeds Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan yet to be determined.
When the Scottish Open concluded on Sunday, the 32 qualifiers for the coveted ranking event were determined, and Ronnie O’Sullivan will take on Pang Junxu in the opening round of the World Grand Prix in Leicester the next month (January 15–21, 2024).
O’Sullivan, the two-time winner of the World Grand Prix, is ranked second on the one-year list for the competition. He will take on Pang, the 31st seed, whom he beat 10-7 in the opening round of the World Championship in April.
In the first and second rounds, matches between Jamie Jones and top-seeded Trump will be decided in the best-of-seven format.
The matches lengthen to a best-of-nine format in the quarterfinals, followed by two semi-finals with a best-of-11 format and a best-of-10 format final for a £100,000 first prize.
Former world champions John Higgins and Shaun Murphy are matched together in the first round tie, while another notable matchup is the defending champion Mark Allen against Jack Lisowski.
