Greetings and welcome to our live text coverage of the Masters in London, taking place at Alexandra Palace on Thursday. It’s going to be yet another unforgettable day.
Marks Selby and Allen square off for a spot in the last four today, while Judd Trump takes on Ali Carter following their semi-final matchup on Thursday between Shaun Murphy and Ronnie O’Sullivan. Watch and listen to live coverage of The Masters on Eurosport and Discovery+.
CARTER: TRUMP 2-2 (0-29)
Trump gives Carter a good chance to sneak in among the balls when he misses a red to the top-right corner.
RETURNING UNDER WAY
In frame five, Trump breaks off as the athletes and the referee make their way back to the arena.
TRUMP 2-2 CARTER MID-SESSION
The Ace has no trouble clearing, so we are all square going into the break.
TRUMP (57–61) 1-2 CARTER
With a masterful sinking of a long yellow, Trump has the colors at his command to level.
All he has to do is the pink.
1-2 CARTER TRUMP (55-61)
Carter misses the yellow with the rest despite having the chance to clear.
The fight for safety is back in action.
1-2 CARTER TRUMP (55-23)
Not to be for Trump, who has to play it safe and loses his position much too readily.
In the final frame before the mid-session break, who will prevail?
TRUMP (48–23) 1-2 CARTER
After seeing a long red, Carter’s stance is a touch lax. He tries to roll up behind the black, but underhits it, and Trump correctly brings him back in to bat.
The Ace has a red to the right corner and a chance to take over the frame as a result of the Captain’s escape.
TRUMP CARTER 1-2 (37–22)
This crucial fourth frame is a safety war that we are now engaged in.
Who will blink first, though, since both players have given up many penalty points due to fouls?

29-1 TRUMP 1-2 CARTER
Trump smacks in another long red following Carter’s break-off, but can only make 29 after he missed a tough black to the bottom-left corner.
Is the Captain able to counter once more?

TRUMP 1-2 CARTER
The Captain recovers the advantage when his opponent misses with a masterful clearing of 103.
1-1 CARTER (TRUMP, 28–39)
Carter is attempting to counter and has a strong chance of regaining the upper hand.
TRUMP 28-0 1-1 CARTER
Trump comfortably strokes in a long red to generate the first opportunity of the third frame.
He failed to properly capitalize on a mid-range red to the bottom-left corner, so he can’t fully capitalize this time.
However, he gets away with it because Trump is compelled to adopt a speculative double that is somewhat off-target.
CARTER 0-0 TRUMP (0-16)
Carter has the opening chance of the game after Trump misses a red to the left center.
The Captain still has work to do, but he gains ground by placing a sturdy pot in the upper-right corner of a long blue line.
NOW WE PAY.
As MC Rob Walker introduces the two players, they exchange handshakes and the excitement inside Alexandra Palace begins.
Record: Quarter-final
Trump has a strong track record in the Masters quarterfinals, having won six of his previous seven encounters. The one exception was when Graeme Dott defeated him 6-1 in 2013.
In his three appearances at this point in the competition, Carter has only triumphed once. However, he was able to go to the final because of that one victory, which occurred in 2020.
As he attempts to unseat the current champion, the Captain will be hoping that this time around is a good omen.
CARTER VS. TRUMP
Today’s first match is a rematch of the Wuhan Open championship match from October, which Trump won 10-7 to win his second ranking title of the year.
Both players prevailed in the first round after fierce battles. After trailing 3-0, Trump rallied to overcome a 55-0 deficit in the last match to defeat Kyren Wilson with an incredible 65-point clearance.
Carter, meanwhile, overcame down three times before rallying to defeat Mark Williams 6-4.
