Before Barry Hawkins’ match, Ronnie O’Sullivan takes aim at the Masters snooker fans.
In preparation for his match against Barry Hawkins in the Masters quarterfinals, Ronnie O’Sullivan has taken aim at the “rowdiness” of the Ally Pally crowd. The Rocket defeated Ding Junhui 6-3 despite being the victim of a 147 maximum break in their first-round match.
On Thursday, O’Sullivan will face Hawkins in a rematch of the 2016 championship game. Although the 48-year-old is vying for his ninth Masters crown, he hasn’t won at Alexandra Palace since 2017.
According to O’Sullivan, “I welcome the pressure.” I accept everything that accompanies winning. I consider it an honor.
To succeed, you must have it. Over the years, I have had to reinvent myself, and that is what I have done. Although I truly don’t enjoy the rowdiness of the Ally Pally crowd, you have to learn to live with it. It is a component of it.
As Hawkins attempts to defeat the current world No. 1, he anticipates the 2,200-seat arena’s patrons to bring the heat. It’s going to be amazing, Hawkins predicted. “Playing Ronnie is always a special occasion, but this venue makes it much more so. It will be electrical. I’m eagerly anticipating it.
Hawkins’ 6-3 triumph over Neil Robertson in the opening round put a stop to an almost four-year losing streak.
The Hawk said, “Beating Neil here is really satisfying because I haven’t beaten him in a long time.” As everyone knows, he has been having some form issues. He hasn’t done anything this season, so there’s some pressure going into this game,” he continued.
It was satisfying to triumph over him; despite his lack of confidence, he made an effort to retaliate. It was good to close out the game.
“I had a nice run to go 5-3, but he got me back under control. It’s really scary when he gets going. It’s good to ultimately defeat him once more, as I say.”
