Defense lineman Javon Kinlaw of the San Francisco 49ers got into a verbal altercation with a local reporter on Tuesday night after making a call to the reporter’s YouTube channel.
When Kinlaw phoned in, Grant Cohn, who covers the 49ers for SI.com’s FanNation, was talking about an interaction he had with the player on Tuesday at practice. On the practice field, Cohn said that Kinlaw approached him and then reportedly knocked off Cohn’s hat.
Kinlaw expressed his displeasure with Cohn’s coverage of the 49ers and his discussion of Kinlaw and his teammates.
Kinlaw’s presentation was peppered with obscenities directed at Cohn.
Stop teasing me,” Kinlaw said. “I don’t play that way, I swear. You’ve never (expletive) met me. It’s not me. Your appearance is known to my entire family.”
Afterwards, Cohn claimed on Twitter that he saw the comment as a threat.
Kinlaw was chosen by the 49ers with the 14th overall choice in the 2020 NFL Draft. After playing in 18 games over the course of two years, Kinlaw’s 2021 season was cut short by an ACL tear.
