Jerry West on Wilt Chamberlain’s incredible hunger “How a man could eat that much, I don’t know.”

Wilt Chamberlain, the Hall of Famer, has many famous accomplishments. Here’s another one: excessive eating. Jerry West, Wilt’s Lakers teammate, saw it all happen and told the amazing tale.

Wilt ate enough food to feed ten people.
You’re going to be surprised if you believe you know Wilt Chamberlain well enough. The man simply never runs out of mythical tales to tell. This time, it has to do with his enormous appetite, which is in sharp contrast to the way that sportsmen should consume food.

Teammate Jerry West of the Lakers recounted a time when he went to see Wilt in his hotel room and was astounded by what he saw.

The tales of Wilt Chamberlain never end.

Wilt boasts of having slept with 20,000 women, having a room in his home named “The Do It Room” that is completely made of waterbeds and surrounded by mirrors, and traveling cross-country on his own. His off-court exploits are comparable to those of any famous person.

But let that not cast a shadow. The stories that have been told about Wilt on the basketball floor are the most significant. Wilt’s base was his athleticism, a gift from God that he developed through perseverance. Not only was Chamberlain a large, athletic man, though. He was proficient at basketball and understood the game.
